Ships arriving
from Singapore normally make Gap Rock. Ships coming from
the direction of Hainan usually do so but in daylight a few
pass near the Ladrone Islands saving about five miles thereby
The number of British ships affected is small.
Ships coming from the direction of Kuangchowwan
would save up to 7 miles. Mmber of British vessela is
believed to be very small indeed.
In practice therefore British shipping would not be
materially affected by increased length of voyage due to
making Gap Rock.
